European publishers are getting on the apps bandwagon, with several recent launches, and a number planned for the near future. Electropages, however, were the first in our industry to launch an app to view content, and so I was delighted to hear it has been downloaded 100,000 times. In the world of electronics publishing, 100K is a big number – more than the circulation of any European electronics publication.
Now I’d be the first to admit that an app download is very different from a regular reader of a print publication, but this doesn’t take anything away from the fact that this is a significant milestone. I’m sure that other publishers who are considering launching an app will speed up their development efforts when they see how successful the Electropages Electronics News iPhone app has been. They will, however, have strong competition as I understand that Electropages intends to launch an iPad app in the near future.
